CESET presented at the “Off-grid energy regulatory framework: a regional perspective”

In November 2022, the CESET team travelled to Maputo, Mozambique to hold its annual team meeting and visit the proposed site for the co-produced community energy laboratory as part of work package 4. During the visit, the CESET team were invited to attend and present at the first Regional Conference on the Regulatory Framework for Access to Off-grid Energycon the 22^nd and 23^rd November. The conference was organised by The Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) and the Dutch Development Organization (SNV) through the BRILHO program.

The international event brought together more than 50 panelists, with the aim of sharing the regulatory framework for access to energy in off-grid areas with relevant regulatory bodies and associations, providing the exchange of experiences, as well as creating opportunities for synergies in the off-grid energy sector in Africa and Mozambique.

During the two days, regulators, funders and operators, participants in the off-grid and renewable energy access sector, from Mozambique and other African countries, presented, discussed and made recommendations on the challenges and opportunities for the off-grid energy sector, as a viable solution to reach the objectives of universal access to efficient and clean energy sources by 2030.

The workshop was organised with two objectives:

1. to share the Mozambican off-grid regulatory framework with relevant regulatory entities and associations, and share experiences, which it was hoped would lead to a better coordination and harmonization of regional regulations and works, and
2. to set up discussion opportunities of relevant themes in off-grid energy systems, with the participation of international scholars, financiers, and practitioners of the business.
