Malawi
Malawi is one of the least electrified countries in the world. Only 18% of Malawi’s 18.14 million inhabitants have access to electricity (11.4% provided by the grid network; 6.6% provided through off-grid energy solutions).
Congratulations to Chrispin on his successful application to The Faraday Institution to be a Battery Ambassador for Malawi. The aim of the programme is to further promote battery technology and energy storage research and networking across sub–Saharan Africa, South Asia and the Indo-Pacific. This is in partnership with the Transforming Energy Access Learning Partnership (TEA-LP) as part of the Ayrton Challenge on Energy Storage (ACES).
The vision is to create a strong Battery Network of professionals working in this sector, that will enable knowledge transfer and skill development that supports the advancement of the clean energy transition. As Battery Ambassador for Malawi, Chrispin will play a key role in gathering battery experts in his country to be part of this initiative.
This builds on Chrispin other roles at Mzuzu University, which include Lecturer in Energy Systems Department, Coordinator of the Test and Training Centre for Renewable Energy Technologies (TCRET) and Postgraduate Program Energy Systems Department , Head of Solar PV and Energy Storage Research Group and of course a valued member of the CESET team.
