The Mozambique government are really harnessing off-grid energy systems and see them as a vital part of their strategy to achieve university energy access by 2030. This is supported by the launch of the new off-grid regulatory framework that will encourage private sector investment to accelerate the development of renewable off-grid energy solutions in remote and rural areas.
Josh explained how off-grid systems are more climate resilient and would continue to function even when large part of the national grid were knocked down. For example, last year deadlly tropical cyclone Storm Ana affected the African nations of Madagascar, Malawi and Mozambique, off-grid energy systems in Malawi continued to function, whilst main grid systems ceased to operate to due flooding and damage.
