Reports
This is an updated list of all open access reports we have produced on energy access, community energy, and energy policy in Ethiopia, Malawi, and Mozambique.
In this report Dr Aran Eales proposes a community energy system twinning initiative that focuses on fostering partnerships between successful community energy projects in the UK and emerging leaders in renewable energy access in Africa. This collaboration aims to fund and implement minigrid solutions in underserved areas, leveraging the expertise and resources of UK projects to support energy access initiatives abroad.
In this report Dr Aran Eales examines communities' pivotal role in establishing and maintaining decentralised energy infrastructure, focusing on mini-grids in Sub-Saharan Africa. By exploring approaches to mini-grid deployment across the continent, the report illuminates the multifaceted dynamics shaping energy transitions in rural African contexts.
This report summarises a 4 week hyrbid training course delivered to 27 females engineers by Mzuzu University in May 2024.
In March 2023 Mzuzu University delivered a 10 day training course on renewable energy for women engineers and technicians, which was implemented by the Test and Training Center for Renewable Energy Technologies, (TCRET), with funding from the CESET Project.
This report provides a summary of Dr Harshit Vallecha's visit of community energy projects in Malawi in September 2023.
AMER produced a report to explore the gaps and opportunities in the Mozambican legislation to propose an additional package of incentives to stimulate the operators in the off-grid subsector to adhere to the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Seal (GESIS).
AMER produced a report to explore the gaps and opportunities in the Mozambican legislation to propose an additional package of incentives to stimulate the operators in the off-grid subsector to adhere to the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Seal (GESIS).
Our CESET co-investigators in Malawi undertook a field visit to the Manolo Health Centre to assess its current access (or non-access) to energy and their energy needs, and to determine what energy system they would need to service its patients effectively.
CESET co-investigators Carlos Shenga and Lorraine Howe of the Centre for Research on Governance and Development in Maputo have published a Portuguese language policy brief on Mozambique's off-grid energy regulation and assesses the opportunities and challenges for the uptake of off-grid energy projects in the country.
CESET co-investigators Lorraine Howe and Carlos Shenga of the Centre for Research on Governance in Maputo have published a new report on the opportunities and challenges for the uptake of community energy projects in Mozambique.
Final report of a three-part series of annotated bibliographies.
Report two of a three-part series of annotated bibliographies.
Report one of a three-part series of annotated bibliographies that a) surveys the body of published research in the area of community energy across Ethiopia, Malawi, and Mozambique; b) reviews key insights and considerations already well documented in the literature as of July 2020; and c) explores areas overlooked in current debates to date and identifies critical gaps for research and development in the sector.
